Hi, There's an effort to elect an unknown random person as President... and it's someone you know! Watch this online video about the surprising new nominee: Please click here
Leave me a note and let me know what you think!
 | | Those who know me will be the first to say how difficult it is for me to go to the gym or engage in any physical activity in the name of fitness. I had this mindset that exercise is only for those who want to loose weight, which didn't include me until all the carbs I've accumulated started catching up with me when I reached my 30's.
On the 10th of August 2008, I joined City2Surf, a 14 km fun run (or walk in my case) sponsored by the Sun Herald newspaper, and is held in Sydney Australia. The race is one of the biggest running races in the world and attracts over 70,000 participants. No I wasn't thinking of getting fit in the first instance. As I was organizing the Habitat for Humanity Team, I guess I felt compelled to join the team first. Of course I also enlisted Jones, who initially thought that I was joking about the whole thing.
Let me just say that I finished the race - 55843rd over the line with a time of under 3 hours ( ok - so it was 2 hrs 58 min 40 sec :p ) It was fun, seriously! And all I could think of was the whole grilled ribs I was going to have after the finish line! I had so much fun, I'd do it again next year - maybe by then I might even run.. |
| | Every hard work deserves a day off so I took mine on a long weekend in celebration of the Queen's birthday on the 6th of June. We were on a one and a half hour flight to Brisbane wrapped in layered clothing and jacket only to land in a sunny city. I guess one can call it love at first sight and it seriously brought me to thinking that God must love them locals soo much, they get to keep the sun more often compared to the other states.
Surfers Paradise is true to its name. It was for me an urban version of Boracay. At Movieworld, I relived my childhood by posing with batman and robin as well as tweety. I also took, along with Jones, a daring ride at the lethal weapon, which in my opinion is the most deadly ride in that theme park. A holiday is not complete without shopping and Harbourtown just blew my wallet away- well not too much as we got there at 4pm and they closed at 5:30pm. That 6-hour return drive to Towoomba was well worth it having met Asraf and his beautiful family. We spent our last day with friends who made it extra special. Their offer to look after the kids when we have them made moving there even more tempting. How privileged we were to have witnessed their celebration of 18 years in marriage and their younger son's 15th birthday.
It was a truly fantastic experience and I'm sure it won't be our last. On our own, we would probably pack our bags and move without batting an eyelash. But Jones and I both know that we needed to stay on our knees and seek God on the matter. In the meantime, what we do have is a beautiful memory and happy thoughts of that trip. |
| | It was an all business - no pleasure trip in Melbourne at the end of May for a two-day office function. By no pleasure I mean that there was no time to go around and see the city or shop at what they call the fashion capital. Nor was there time to catch up with Boris, Chris and their cutest baby or Rome's cousin Ruby Ann
But it was fun meeting people who's names we only read, or email with or speak on the phone. Now we have faces to connect to the names. Hearing their stories and how their work at the local level is just encouraging. At the ReStore launch, two ladies shared how having a home changed their lives and one of them became a Christian because she was overwhelmed by the kindness that strangers are showing her. For me it was the highlight of the whole trip - getting a different perspective of my job, seeing the bigger picture and looking beyond the four walls of the office. |
| | I was dragged to a fire warden's training this afternoon amidst all the work on my plate.
We were so convincing at the fire drill, everyone came out at a record time of 2.30 minutes, including those who are having the SLT which I coined Senior (citizen) Leadership Team |
My boss sent this thought last Wednesday to the resource development team. I can't help but share - but mostly because I am feeling very blessed to work with a man whose leadership and dependence on God I respect:
Isaiah 40 verse 30 -31(NAS) Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Psalm 127 verse 1-2 (Message) If God doesn't build the house, the builders only build shacks. If God doesn't guard the city, the night watchman might as well nap. It's useless to rise early and go to bed late, and work your worried fingers to the bone. Don't you know he enjoys giving rest to those he loves? Just a couple of verses to encourage you (and myself :-)) to trust and rest in a loving God in the middle of a busy life! Sometimes in the rush we can lose sight of the fact that our Heavenly Father loves us, has chosen us and wants us to be blessed and to be a blessing. In the midst of all the activity and demands of life I encourage you to take time, stop, be still and actually engage our hearts with God. That's where the power to live an abundant life comes from, relationship with our creator. Our problems are not problems to Him but an opportunity for him to do the miraculous. We just need to listen to His voice and follow His lead. Have a blessed day! I officially started my job search one month after I moved, what with the cold winter upon my arrival, that made staying at home a better option, as opposed to going out - not even for shopping.
I went mostly to online websites like www.seek.com.au for advertisements on job availability and requirements. For a period of four months, I had four interviews in North Sydney that I joked that I will be working in the area. That was before I got lost and missed one interview - when I sat down in one of the benches and cried before God out of desperation, just because my husband printed for me a small map of my destination. Sometime in October, on the very day of my friend Althea's birthday, I had a scheduled interview in Parramatta, for this organization that I am working for now. In the course of the interview, it came up that they are scheduled to move to the city - to which I shamelessly said that it is because I will be joining them that they have to change locations. To give you an idea, Parramatta is an hour and thirty to forty five minutes train ride for me from Sutherland counting the time to walk from home to the train station and office. As long as I get on my train platform as scheduled, then I am alright. It is during the times that I get up late and had to drag myself out of bed that I find myself sprinting instead of my usual 10-minute walk that I had to gasp for air (I know Bexz, I should have gone jogging with you!) when I get on the train. Other than that, there's always things to do - reading, listening to music from my reliable phone, people watching, praying or just staying quiet on the whole ride. As I type this morning, I am sitting in my new desk in our new Pacific Highway Office in North Sydney. It is way bigger, and the whole National Office will stay in one place instead of two offices. Oh, and did I say that I took the 8:05 express train (as opposed to the 7:26 if I was going to Parramatta) from Sutherland and got here at 9:00 AM? Disclaimer: It is usually a busy morning but the movers are still in our old office and wont be here before lunch. Otherwise, I wouldn't have the time to blog on the first day after a long Easter break!
| | We had a two day staff build last March 14 - 15, 2008 in Orange - it blessed us immensely, I think much more than the three families whose home we fenced and painted. |
**FRIENDS - you know who you are - because of your kindness my brother got his laptop (among others) in one piece. **MOVIE NIGHTS - usually tuesdays, as the rates during the rest of the week doubles **SUMMER RAIN - God knows I will probably faint at a 40 degree-C temperature He brought rain in between the hot summer! **a PATIENT HUSBAND towards a wife who goes mute mode from time to time..DO NOT TRY AT HOME - one could get shouted at 'nough said! **a praying resource development manager - thank God our department is no longer an orphan **lunches at Charles St Wharf - alone but definitely NOT lonely.. **provision for my siblings' studies. | RaNdOm MesSaGeS | |
